Digital Amateur TV stream

Hi all,

If anyone is interested in seeing what ATV is like I will be streaming Digital ATV content from GB3UD on Mow Cop. Well I'm trying to create some fellow interest...one of my new years resolutions is to do more in the hobby, but when it comes to ATV not too many play.

Approximately 28km away from my QTH on Mow Cop the GB3UD repeater is being received on 1.3185 Ghz via my PC Digital Satellite card (the same sort of PC card you would use for freesat satellite TV reception from sky tv's astra satellite free to air channels on 28.2 degrees). Those that send tv to GB3UD use 1.249 Ghz as the input frequency in order to have their TV pictures repeated.

Essentially the GB3UD repeater spits out an MPEG2 DVB broadcast stream using QPSK modulation. I decode this on the PC similair to freesat decoding but without a dish pointing to the satellite. You can also use a digital manually tunable satellite receiver to pick up DATV as well without the LNB/Dish. My antenna is a 35 element tonna for 23cm (technically 24cm) going virtually straight into the PC card with some low loss coax.

Anyway I will leave it relaying over the Internet for those that are interested in what it's all about.

GB3UD repeater now accepts analogue or digital in and gives digital out as it has now just switched from analogue to digital out.

Hence my next project which will be to build a digilite DATV transmitter kit, developed by the British Amateur Telivision Club http://www.batc.tv making use of the 23cm Power Amplifier I already built for my analogue transmission kit.

I'd be happy to talk to anyone who's interested in ATV. I've not been playing with ATV long but am happy to share the little bit I have gathered over the last few months. I don't know anywhere near as much as some of the old timer ATV guys though.. But the way I see it the more the merrier as not too many people round Manchester are very active. I plan to get more active as do some others I have spoken too. Just another asset to the hobby I guess.

P.S. most of the time you will be seeing a test card. I think Wednesday night their may be some activity, so I will try and keep the stream running for anyone who wants to see.

Here is the link:- http://justin.tv/g8hcb

For those that want to watch, please bear with the short advert at the start of the stream. Nothings for free!!! Also some of the picture quality is a bit scratchy when a weak or off beam signal is transmitting in analogue. And if nothing is happening much, theres another reason for me sending this email. Would be nice to see more on there.

  1. Anyone wanting to try and connect an antenna to a satellite receiver card or box MUST use an F-Connecotr type DC Block in line, so as not to short the 12v which is meant for a normal satellite dishes LNB. I can be contact for info on how to set a simple RX station up for those interested.
